Elkhart officers deny wrongdoing in civil lawsuit related to Norman Gary shooting

A female passenger who was in the vehicle that Norman Gary reportedly tried to run over Elkhart officers with has filed a civil lawsuit.

22-year-old Jazzelyn Crase claims that she was denied medical care after she was shot in the leg during the incident on Dec. 4, according to the Elkhart Truth.

She also claims Elkhart police Sgt. Nathan Lanzen and Cpl. Leonard Dolshenko used excessive force on her when she was shot in the thigh. That shot shattered her femur bone and caused significant bleeding. Gary was shot in the process and died at the scene.

Crase says the officers not only didn’t provide her any medical assistance, but they also didn’t “substantially interact” with her in the moments after the shooting. She eventually was taken via ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital. Her injury will likely require a lot more treatment.

Both Lanzen and Dolshenko, through their attorney, denied any wrongdoing, but didn’t directly refute Crase’s claims, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office says both officers weren’t able to attend to Carse because her door was pinned shut against another vehicle.

The officers weren’t charged after a grand jury investigation.

Crese is seeking an unspecified money amount in damages.

We need to train police officers that when they are involved with a Thug and fighting for their lives they need to stop everything and tend to the passenger that is in the criminal car that has tried to kill them…If I were a judge I would put her in jail just for being so stupid and showing up in my court with this crap! Are you alive? Get over it! If your attorney was not a lowlife he would be going after the criminal thug that caused all of this…Oh wait, he is dead. You could sue his estate. Probably not much there so of course go after the police that did their jobs. Jazzelyn Crase, you make me sick!!!
