Parents on alert: Man approaching children in Middlebury

An alert has been issued for parents and children in Middlebury as police are investigating possible cases of “stranger danger.”

The reports to Middlebury Police are about a man whose been trying to get children inside his vehicle.

The latest incident happened around 2:45, Monday afternoon, in the Westlake Estates and Spring Valley neighborhoods, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

According to police, the man asked a boy if he wanted to go for a ride. Investigators believe the same man had been spotted in downtown Middlebury approaching children at some bus stops, The Elkhart Truth reported.

The suspect is described as white, bald with a short black beard with a brown shirt with camouflage on it. He was also wearing blue jeans. The vehicle he’s been seen in is a black Toyota sedan with an “In God We Trust” license plate.

Anybody who thinks they’ve seen him should contact Middlebury Police or the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
