More information released on severe crash south of Wakarusa Saturday

A Milford man was hospitalized with severe injuries and traffic was backed up for hours after a head-on crash south of Wakarusa Friday evening.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. Friday on S.R. 19 south of S.R. 119.

The 46-year-old man from Milford reportedly crossed the center line and hit a vehicle being driven by a 68-year-old Napa, California man.

Officers say the Milford man suffered severe head injuries and a compound fracture to his leg. The Napa man had head injuries and a cut to his hand while his passenger, a 69-year-old woman from Napa, complained of rib pain.

The Milford man was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The couple from Napa were taken via ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital.
