An attempted murder charge has been filed against the man accused in the shooting that happened Tuesday in the parking lot of Polito’s Pizzaria.

South Bend police, with help from Mishawaka Police, have arrested 20-year-old Steven Polito.

He’s accused shooting at a vehicle multiple times after a failed attempt to speak with his ex-girlfriend who works at the restaurant at the corner of McKinley and Hickory Roads.

Witnesses say a co-worker tried to get Polito to leave when he grabbed a gun in his car and threatened to shoot at the ex-girlfriend’s car if the worker didn’t move.

Police say he shot the car multiple times in close range to the worker, one of the bullets was fired close to the co-worker’s ear though no one was actually hit from the gunfire. Polito then allegedly scrawled the words “I hate you” in his own blood on the vehicle.

The girlfriend reportedly hid inside the restaurant during the incident.

Polito is being held at St. Joseph County Jail on $250,000 bond.

No problem with an insanity defense for this whack job! I would bet this guy has quite a record at this point in his short life. Probably something more gun control would easily fix though, right?
