Gov. Eric Holcomb signs several Indiana education bills into law

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Eric Holcomb has signed into law several of the education bills from this legislative session, including the state takeover of Muncie and Gary school districts.

Holcomb said at a news conference this week he believes the bill will help get schools back on track. Both districts are facing financial difficulties.

The measures he signed Friday also include a bill critics say loosens accountability of voucher-accepting private schools and one setting parameters for a replacement exam for the much-maligned ISTEP after June 2018.

A bill that would close a loophole that Ricker’s convenience stores found to sell cold beer and a measure that would lower the current financial benefit to installing solar panels are still on the Indiana Republican’s desk. He has declined to comment on both.
