An Open Murder charge has been filed against a Coloma man accused of murdering an Eau Claire man in a love triangle gone wrong.

22-year-old Derrick Bailey is also charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a 5 year felony, and a Felony Firearm charge, which carries a mandatory 2 year consecutive term, according to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bailey is accused of shooting 37-year-old Nicholaus Kling three times in the chest and the face after Kling approached his vehicle at the intersection of Red Arrow Highway and Benton Center Road in Benton Township.

There was an apparent dispute involving Bailey, Kling, and the woman driving the vehicle, who was reportedly dating Bailey and had recently broken up with Kling, according to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bailey’s bond was set Wednesday at $250,000, cash or surety. He faces life in prison if convicted.
