A rape charge has been added to the list of charges an Elkhart man is facing for allegedly holding four people hostage for five days.

31-year-old Derrick Glass is accused of holding a 68-year-old man and 64, 26, and 21 year old women hostage. The new rape charge is a Level 1 felony carrying a maximum 40 year prison term, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Elkhart Police say someone went to officers at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to report that she had been held against her will and that there were others still being held captive. She only was able to get freed when the captor allowed her to go to the store.

When officers arrived at the apartment on the 400 block of West Franklin Street, a suspect was spotted fleeing the area. He was caught and identified as 31-year-old Derrick Glass of Elkhart. He was allegedly found with a handgun believed to have been used in the incident.

Investigators found that the four victims were threatened with a handgun and two women were found battered. One of the females went to Elkhart General Hospital while the other refused treatment.

Court documents say Glass was angry that the friend was telling others that he had shot at someone.

Glass has been charged by police with four counts of criminal confinement and two counts of battery. On top of the new rape charge, Glass also faces three charges from an unrelated shooting incident that happened a couple blocks down from the apartment on April 22.

Glass is still in custody on $1 million bond.
