Iconic silo in Warsaw to be used as new cat room

If you’re heading east on U.S. 30 you’ll see a new landmark.

An iconic silo will function as a free-roam cat room for the Animal Welfare League of Warsaw’s new location. The silo will allow some of the shelter’s cats to mingle without cages. The public will be able to view the cats through an observatory window.

A press release from the Animal Welfare League of Warsaw indicates the silo means a lot to their organization, saying the silo “will be a beacon to welcome visitors to the Kosciusko area as well as attracting the community as well as pet lovers to the new facility.”

Two supporters of the silo installation were Chore-Time Brock and Hochstettler Grains. A Brock spokesperson says they’re proud of the efforts.

“Brock is proud to support the Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League in their endeavors to provide safe and healthy homes for pets and to help them find loving owners. It is our desire that with the addition of the Brock grain bin to the Animal Welfare League’s new site, greater awareness will be raised for pets in need.”

The free roam cat room is just one part of a multi-phase new building campaign that will allow more space and more comfortable arrangements during pet adoption.

The shelter’s new location on S 325 E at the intersection of U.S. 30 just east of Warsaw, across from the building they’ve been using. They aim to have an indoor walking track for pet exercise, an education wing for the public, and a board room at the new shelter.

Executive Director Darla McCammon tells News Now Warsaw the health of the animals is her number one priority. She says an improved lab facility at the new shelter location would allow the Animal Welfare League to isolate sick animals until they’re healthy to prevent spread of disease.

In addition to a state of the art laboratory and health care section, McCammon says benefits and improvements in the next phase of the building campaign will help homeless pets.

“Having a very high adoption rate compared to other shelters of our size, nationwide is a number we are sure going to be proud to increase when the new facility is complete.  Offering healthy pets and finding them a new ‘Furever’ home is always a priority with us.  This new building will give more pets a chance at a new life,” explains McCammon.

The Animal Welfare League of Warsaw is still asking the community for donations to ensure they’re able to provide the best possible shelter for the area’s adoptable animals. To read more about the campaign and make a donation, visit them at https://awlwarsaw.com/about/building/
