Update: Power was restored to almost every customer at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
There’s a power outage affecting about 6,600 I&M customers in Elkhart.
Residents mostly to the north of Bristol Street in Elkhart lost power at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, according to the Elkhart Truth.
The utility’s outage map showed a large swath of Elkhart and Osolo Township north of Bristol Street, south of the Michigan-Indiana state line between C.R. 7 and Jeanwood Drive included in the outage.
Equipment at a substation failed, and the utility says power could start being restored as early as 4 p.m., according to Indiana-Michigan Power.
In the meantime, the Elkhart Fire Department was called to a hotel on Elkhart’s north side in response to people being trapped in an elevator. There’s also multiple reports of traffic lights out. Treat any intersection as a four-way stop if the lights are out.
