Thursday marks the second visit within a week to Michiana for Indiana’s Governor.
Last week, Eric Holcomb‘s visit was to Elkhart for the R-V Power breakfast. This time, Governor Holcomb will be in Michigan City with South Shore officials for the ceremonial signing of a rail transit development bill just passed.
The legislation authorizes the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority to use increment financing to develop areas near rail stations to maximize the economic benefits of double-tracking the existing line between Gary and Michigan City and extending service from Hammond to Dyer.
The House is being called a “game-changer” by lawmakers who say it will benefit not just South Shore counties, but the state as a whole.
