St. Joseph County detectives are looking into a report of an uncommon theft.

It’s an unfortunate story most commonly associated with the old west: A horse thief. Police say the horse, named Moon, was stolen from a barn in Mishawaka on Beech Road sometime in the middle of the night on Friday, according to ABC 57.

The animal was being housed there before moving to a new home in another part of the state. Police suspect the person responsible was likely familiar with the property and knew how to get the animal out of the barn easily.

Theft of a horse can result in serious felony charges, including possible jail time.
