Acting Sheriff William “Rocky” Goshert is announcing he will be running for the Sheriff position vacated by former Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine.

Goshert is a former two-term Kosciusko County Sheriff and a longtime Kosciusko County resident. He’d fill out the term left behind by Rovenstine if elected.

Goshert’s law enforcement career began in 1980 as a trooper for the Indiana State Police. In 2001, he was hired as a deputy at the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and was eventually promoted to the rank of corporal. Goshert was elected Sheriff of Kosciusko County in 2006. He won a second term in 2010. He then became captain of the Sheriff’s Department when Aaron Rovenstine took office in 2015, and became acting Sheriff upon Rovenstine’s resignation May 23 of this year.

Goshert stated that the events of the past two years have increased the need for steady and experienced leadership.

“The Sheriff’s Department has just been through a terrible ordeal,” explains Goshert. “Now is the time for stability and calm. I believe that I’m the best candidate to accomplish that.”

Goshert is the fourth person to announce their intent to seek the Sheriff position. Indiana State Trooper Kyle Dukes, Former Warsaw Police Detective Jordan Foreman, and Kosciusko County Deputy Joshua Spangle have all filed for the role.

A caucus to decide the next sheriff will be held June 21.
