Former football player suing Notre Dame over injury

The University of Notre Dame is being sued by a Maryland man who will never play football again.

John-Vincent Louis and his family are seeking compensation for a career-ending knee injury he suffered while attending a Notre Dame football camp four years ago, WNDU reports.

“I’ve lost a considerable amount of my faith, my self esteem and my confidence,” said John-Vincent Louis. He calls the school’s treatment of his injury “barbaric”.

Louis tore a ligament in his leg at the University of Notre Dame summer football camp in 2013. WNDU reports it happened on an uneven field. Louis claims the university was negligent in its response to the injury.

“I would like to know why they feel it’s OK to not inform parents of when their son or daughter is injured,” said Louis.

John-Vincent’s mother says she was not informed he was injured until she went to pick him up at the end of the day, despite being listed as his emergency contact. She did sign a risk waiver form before the camp.

“I don’t care if they’re a powerhouse. I don’t care. What’s right is right. You don’t do this to children. You don’t throw them away like they’re garbage,” said Louis.

WNDU reports the family is asking for compensation beyond the medical insurance coverage offered under the camp waiver, but Notre Dame denies many of the family’s claims. The defense team says the injury was inherent in the nature of football and claims for anything other than medical insurance coverage from the University do not belong in the case, according to court documents.

The Louis family attorney wouldn’t say how much they are seeking in damages, and that they waited this long to file the suit because it has taken four years to gather relevant medical records and other information to build the case.

Greedy Idiots! June 7, 2017 at 11:37 am

If I were in charge of Notre Dame’s defense I would fight this to the bitter end. What kind of idiot takes their kid to football camp and then sues because he gets hurt? Greedy idiots, that’s who! These are the type of people that would sue a car manufacturer if they got hurt in a car accident and were drunk at the same time.
Career ending? That’s a bold statement considering the tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of kids that go on to have a “career” in football. Why not claim he was going to set all the world records for the 100 yard dash? That would be more realistic. I wonder what that waiver you signed was for?

I am going to sue my parents! I was going to be a very successful quarterback in the NFL but I’m only 5-10, 190 pounds, and have little hands as well as little football talent. Oh, I also crashed on a mini bike they bought me when I was 10 as well. I’m sure its my parents fault so I am going to sue them! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey snowflake, you want to see a barbaric treatment of your injury I’m sure you can be sent to another country that will treat you so.

You got hurt…playing a GAME…as an ADULT…own up and get over it. Just because you thought you were going to get rich does not make that a reality anyone else needs to buy into.

Get a REAL JOB ball playing wannabe.
