St. Joseph County 911 call center hoping to add new dispatchers soon

St. Joseph County’s 911 call center is hoping for more funding.

Their goal is to add dispatchers, which they say would likely make a huge difference when seconds count. The South Bend Tribune reports that their funding comes from a few different platforms comprised of a local agreement between South Bend, Mishawaka, and the county.

Hiring additional staff has been placed on hold for now until upgraded technology can be implemented and reviewed.

The current staff of 64 is said to be overworked, but the department reminds you that even with the current level of staffing, incoming calls to 9-1-1 are always answered.
