Two seriously hurt after small plane crashes in Berrien County

Two men suffered serious injuries after their small aircraft crashed in Watervliet Township.

The crash happened Friday near the Watervliet Municipal Airport when a small aircraft failed to gain enough altitude taking off and crashed into a wooded ravine near the runway, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Two men, a 27-year-old from Fruitport, MI, and a 36-year-old from Winterhaven, FL, suffered serious injuries, but were able to pull themselves away from the wrecked plane. They were taken via ambulance to Lakeland Hospitals.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
