Southwestern Michigan priest charged with embezzlement

CENTREVILLE, Mich. (AP) — A priest from southwestern Michigan charged with embezzling more than $100,000 in church funds has been ordered to stand trial.

MLive.com reports Monday that Richard Fritz’ case has been bound over to St. Joseph County Circuit Court.

A preliminary examination had been scheduled for Tuesday. Fritz was arraigned in April.

MLive.com reports that he served as a priest in the Diocese of Kalamazoo for 35 years before resigning last year following an investigation into inappropriate use of church funds between 2010 and 2016.
