CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) — A 34-year-old Lake County sheriff’s officer has turned himself in to authorities after being indicted in the rape of a female co-worker.

The Times of Northwest Indiana reports that Nicholas Medarno arrived Friday at the Lake County Jail and was released after posting bond.

A Lake County grand jury indicted Medarno of Crown Point.

Medarno faces two counts of rape and one count each of confinement, attempted rape and sexual battery. It alleges the incidents occurred between January 2013 and November 2014.

Medarno has served with the sheriff’s office for just over 10 years. Prosecutors say he is on leave.

Defense attorney Paul Stracci says a July 7 arraignment is scheduled. Stracci says he will enter a “not guilty” plea on Medarno’s behalf and ask for an immediate trial date.
