Mishawaka Police warns public about possible police impersonator

(Tom Franklin/95.3 MNC)

Mishawaka Police are investigating reports of a possible police impersonator.

Around 10 p.m. Thursday, police were informed of a blue Chevy Malibu with Ohio license plates trying to stop a woman in the area of Ewing Ave. and Ironwood Rd. in South Bend. The car had a blue emergency flashing light and flashing headlights.

The woman continued into Mishawaka and eventually lost the fake officer in the area of 12th and Iowa Streets.

Mishawaka Police say that, if you suspect an unmarked vehicle with emergency lights isn’t the real deal, you should call 911 immediately and verify that you’re being pulled over by an officer. Also, police vehicles in the state of Indiana are required to have red and blue flashing or rotating lights.

If you know who is driving around acting like a fake officer, contact the Mishawaka Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 574-258-1684.
