Former MNC morning host Matt Patrick loses battle to cancer

(95.3 MNC)

Former 95.3 MNC morning host Matt Patrick has died. He was 58 years old.

Fort Bend County, Texas Sheriff Troy E. Nehls made the announcement on Facebook of Patrick’s family.

On Wednesday, Patrick went on the air at 740 KTRH to announce that he was stopping cancer treatments in an emotional announcement, which you can hear below.

Matt started in September 2010, just a few months after MNC’s debut. During his time, he covered the 2010 mid-term election, the debate over increased gun control following the shooting of Arizona lawmaker Gabrielle Giffords as well as several hot-button topics, including the effort to oust Chick Fil A from the campus at Indiana University South Bend.

Matt left MNC in June 2011 when he was offered the role of morning host at KTRH-AM in Houston, where he had just completed his sixth year in the morning show chair before announcing his decision to stop cancer treatments last week.

“Matt was only on MNC for a short time, but we credit him for putting the radio station on the map in Michiana. His impact outlasted his brief tenure. Many MNC listeners also followed Matt’s path to Houston, which is a credit to his talent,” said Jon Zimney, Program and News Director for MNC.

Even after Patrick left MNC, his voice could still be heard on 95.3 FM, as he made several guest host appearances on The Bill Cunningham Show, heard Sunday nights at 10 p.m.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Paula, a son and two daughters.

Here is one of Matt’s most-watched videos from his time at 95.3 MNC:
