Flooding, tornadoes rip through northern and central Indiana

GALVESTON, Ind. (AP) — Severe thunderstorms caused road and neighborhood flooding in northern and central Indiana, along with several reports of tornadoes in rural areas.

No injuries were immediately reported from the Monday night and Tuesday morning storms. Heavy rains and strong winds closed many roads in the Kokomo and Logansport areas.

The Cass County sheriff’s department says a home was damaged by a possible tornado near Galveston. Crews pumped water from the basement of Lewis Cass High School, and the Ivy Tech State College campus in Kokomo also was flooded.

The National Weather Service says trained spotters reported possible tornadoes in Carroll and Huntington counties. Other reports of possible tornadoes came in from Wabash and Miami counties.

Weather service teams planned to survey damage on Tuesday.
