South Bend passed over for grant to remove lead from homes

Despite there being an undeniable need for it, the federal government has shunned South Bend and St. Joseph County for a grant to remove lead from homes.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced its grants for its yearly Lead Hazard Control program, and no Indiana communities were on the list. The South Bend Tribune reports that South Bend officials were both surprised and disappointed to be left out.

Earlier this year, data released by the state showed an unusually high number of children under age 7 were being sickened by lead poisoning in the near northwest neighborhood.

HUD’s Region 5 includes Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio. South Bend officials took notice that the region as a whole seems to have been left out compared to other parts of the country.

And people continue to ignore the fact that we are twenty trillion dollars in debt.

How about you don’t let your kids eat paint…or give your house a new paint job if it hasn’t been painted since lead paint was a thing.
