Swanson Highlands Pool in South Bend suddenly closes

(95.3 MNC)

The future of a longtime South Bend pool is in doubt after it suddenly closed over the weekend.

Swanson Highlands Pool near Ironwood and Cleveland Roads has been a neighborhood institution since the 1960s.

However, lifeguards that work the pool say they haven’t been paid in weeks. One of them told WSBT she’s owed over $900. This comes after years of cost and staff cuts.

It’s not clear what will happen to people who bought memberships for the pool. Board members at the pool say they’re in need of donations or fundraising ideas to stay afloat.
