Warrant sweep in St. Joseph County nets 17 arrests on child support matters

A child support warrant sweep conducted in St. Joseph County this past week resulted in 17 parents arrested or taken into custody on outstanding warrants issued in connection with civil child support matters.

The sweep was conducted in cooperation with:

• St. Joseph County Prosecutors’ Office Investigators
• South Bend Police Department Street Crimes
• St. Joseph County Police Department Street Crimes
• St. Joseph County Police Department Warrants Division

The sweep was conducted after the Child Support Division attempted to secure these individuals’ compliance with their support obligations, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The individuals arrested either failed to appear for a court hearing or failed to follow through with their support payment, even after the court entered a suspended sentence, the prosecutor’s office stated.

As a result of the sweep, nearly $5,700 in bond was collected, all of which will go directly to the custodial parents.
