A Hammond woman’s body was pulled from Lake Michigan, and officers believe she drowned.

24-year-old Kaitlynn Boswinkle was swimming with two friends on Marquette Beach at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials say Boswinkle initially got out of the water with her two friends, then got back into the lake and swam to a buoy about 200 feet from shore. Her friends lost sight of her, and her body was discovered floating in the lake two hours later.

DNR officials say there were unfavorable conditions at the time of her death, with waves 3-to-5 feet high.
