The YMCA on Front Street in Niles is getting ready for a growth spurt.

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA will undergo almost $6 million worth of expansions over the next three years. The facility will add a second gym, a new youth center, a teen center, and a mind-body-soul fitness studio.

ABC 57 reports the current facility was built ten years ago and the new improvements are expected to boost family usage.

Further funding may come from a State Farm grant program that the YMCA hopes to gain after voting happens this month.

The Building the Foundation of Community Capital Expansion has qualified as 1 of the top 200 qualifiers out of 2,000 applicants nationwide to participant in State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist $25,000 grant program. 40 winners will be selected based on voting. Voting opened August 16 and extends through August 25.

The Y is asking for as many people to vote as possible as they are currently ranked 75 out of 200. Click here for more information and to vote.
