The South Bend landlord registry is underway this week.
The registry will affect thousands of properties, and every landlord needs to be on it. WSBT reports that the second registration period begins on September 1, and due to some glitches last year they know not everyone was able to sign up.
This year they are giving no exceptions.
The registry will allow the city to work more closely with landlords to monitor problem properties. More than 4,000 properties were registered this year but code enforcement says that’s only a third of all properties.
The city is charging a $300 civil penalty to anyone who doesn’t sign up.
