An Elkhart man will be going to prison for the murder of Devonte Patrick in 2013.
21-year-old Antonio Walters admitted to the murder in September. He’s been sentenced to 55 years in prison followed by five years of probation.
Walters and 22-year-old Thomas Harper both admitted to pulling out handguns during a marijuana deal and shooting Patrick as he tried to get away. Walters fled to Minnesota after the murder, Harper was previously sentenced to 60 years in prison.
The Elkhart Truth reports that Patrick’s mother and sister both promised in court that they would pray for Walters despite the fact he took their son and brother from them. Walters apologized to Patrick’s family in court, stating he understood the pain they feel.
