If you wish to entertain kids at your doorstep, be sure to leave a porch or similar outdoor light on. However, the times for trick-or-treating in Michiana cities varies depending on where you are.
It’s 5 to 7 p.m. local time for most cities, including

- Osceola
- Bremen
- Bristol
- Bourbon
- Middlebury
- Michigan City (Central Time)
- Nappanee
- New Carlisle
- Plymouth
- Walkerton
- Wakarusa
If you live in Elkhart and LaPorte, it’s 6 until 8 p.m. local time (ET in Elkhart, CT in LaPorte).
In Goshen, you get an extra half hour as trick-or-treating runs from 5:30 until 8 p.m. there.
In Niles and Edwardsburg, it’s 6 until 7:30 p.m.
And if you live in Rolling Prairie or Shipshewana, it’s 5:30 until 7 PM local time (CT in Rolling Prairie, ET for Shipshewana).
And if your kids are going out to hunt for treats, make sure they’re wearing either a brightly-colored costume or some reflective tape, so they can be spotted by drivers. Also, remind them not to dart out into the street as well.
