One flown to hospital after Elkhart apartment fire breaks out

(Kylie Walker/ABC 57)

Three people were injured after a fire broke out at an Elkhart home.

The fire started at about 10:20 a.m. Monday at an apartment building on North 3rd Street near West Jackson Boulevard.

One of the victims had to be flown to a Kalamazoo hospital via MedFlight because of severe injuries.

The fire was so severe, it spread to the apartment building next door. Elkhart firefighters say there was extensive damage to the first apartment building and a fair amount of damage to the second.

Firefighters remained on the scene battling hotspots.
