Warring Indiana alcohol lobbyists reach deal on Sunday sales

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two powerful groups whose past disagreements have blocked attempts to legalize carryout Sunday alcohol sales in Indiana say they have reached an agreement.

The Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers and the Indiana Retail Council announced Friday they have resolved differences that scuttled previous attempts to repeal the law.

Liquor store owners represented by the beverage association will drop their opposition to Sunday sales. Retailers, in return, will oppose a proposal allowing convenience and grocery stores to sell cold beer — a right long afforded to liquor stores.

It’s unclear whether lawmakers will go along with the proposal during the legislative session that starts in January.

The group representing convenience stores, meanwhile, says the sudden agreement between two long-warring groups should “call into question the credibility of both organizations.”

Our legislative branch needs to grow a pair and quit worrying about the kick back money (bribes) November 13, 2017 at 1:59 pm

Please tell me why the word “lobbyist” doesn’t make all politicians involved suspect? Why let our politicians be lobbied? What is in the interest of the citizens you represent and what should the laws be if common sense is applied? Citizens would like to buy cold beer anywhere that wants to sell it (screw the liquor stores) on any day of the week that the stores are open including Sunday. Stop letting private groups (lobbyists) legislate! Grow a pair and don’t worry about the kick back money so much.
