A 12-year-old Michigan City girl is recovering after she was attacked by a dog Friday morning.

Police were called to the Dunewood Trailer Park on State Road 212 just south of U.S 12 a little after 7:30 in the morning. Officer Scott Combs described a “chaotic scene” where neighbors were trying to beat a 140 pound Bull Mastiff off of a 12-year-old girl.

The child was able to break free, but the dog chased the girl into the trailer, where it continued its attack. Officer Combs was able to wrestle the dog off the girl and get it locked into a room while the girl was tended to.

Combs is also a trained EMT and his paramedic skills are credited for saving the girl’s life.

She was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. The dog is under quarantine by Michigan City Animal Control.
