20-year-old man killed in crash on U.S. 20 near New Prairie High School

A 20-year-old man was killed in a crash on U.S. 20 near New Prairie High School.

The collision happened around 3:30 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the intersection with County Road 750 East.

The victim, identified as Cody Strauch, was traveling west on U.S. 20 and traveled off of the north side of the road and struck a tree in the yard of a home, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

After hitting the tree, the vehicle spun off and into the yard, approximately 30 feet from the tree, the sheriff’s department reported.

It is not known why the vehicle left the roadway.

At the time of the crash, the road was wet which may have been a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s department stated.

Deputies are also looking into speed being a factor as well.
