The gun ended up on the road after the officer failed to secure the weapon, which fell off in his car and landed in the roadway, according to a letter of disciplinary action, as reported by WNDU.

The officer, who was not named in the letter, was written up for neglect of duty and violation of rules.

The officer has received a letter of reprimand and verbal counseling, WNDU reported.
