A former Kosciusko County Corrections Officer is now facing charges of sexual misconduct and aiding, abetting, or causing escape.

23-year-old Patrick Olson was employed as Community Corrections Officer when court documents say he knowingly engaged in sexual conduct with someone who was being detained. It happened between September 29 and October 1 of this year, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Olson is accused of removing the ankle bracelet of a woman who was on home detention. He had been her case manager, but because he admitted to having feelings for her, he was advised not to make any further contact with her.

Despite no longer monitoring the detainee, Olson reportedly went to her residence, where he removed her ankle bracelet and then took her on a trip to Valparaiso. Court documents say they stayed two nights in the same room of a hotel for the University’s homecoming.

The detainee says the two engaged in sexual intercourse, according to the probable cause affidavit. Olson then brought her back to her home and put the ankle monitor back on her.

Patrick Olson was fired from his position as a home detention officer October 4.

The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office has filed for a special prosecutor to be appointed in the case, and a Marshall County judge will preside so that the Kosciusko County judicial officials are not facing a conflict of interest.
