The death of a Winona Lake man’s girlfriend in September has led to federal charges for the boyfriend.

25-year-old Devon Hurd of Winona Lake has been charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Northern District of Indiana.

This follows the Sept. 5 death of Hurd’s girlfriend at a Winona Lake home. Investigators that day say they found a loaded 9 mm pistol, 21 unused syringes, digital scale, packaging materials, and almost 9 grams of heroin.

Hurd reportedly admitted both he and his deceased girlfriend had used heroin that morning. He also reportedly admitted to earning $400 per seven grams of heroin sold in the Winona Lake area.
