A 75 year-old LaPorte woman has been given her sentence in a neglect case.

The judge sentenced Georgia Arvidson to two years in prison for neglect of a dependent in the case, along with four years’ probation. WSBT reports that her felony sentence could have been as high as 16 years after a jury found her guilty in September.

The judge cited a possible mental condition that might explain her unusual behavior.

68 year-old Harold Grise, Arvidson’s blind brother, lay injured on the floor in her home with a broken jaw for three days after Arvidson’s son, Eric Minter, reportedly struck him in October of 2015. Grise died a short time later in the hospital.

Minter still faces trial.
