Goshen man dies in snowy crash east of Wakarusa

Tuesday’s winter weather has caused at least one fatality on area roads.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says one person died in a two-vehicle crash east of Wakarusa on S.R. 119 northeast of C.R. 9 just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers say a vehicle hit a patch of drifting snow, slid sideways, and collided with another vehicle. The road was closed for about an hour afterwards.

20-year-old Joseph Whitehead of Goshen was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 44-year-old Bremen man, was taken to IU Goshen Health for treatment of head and leg injuries.
