A former Superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools is guilty of stealing money from the district.

Dr. Leonard Seawood was found guilty Friday of all five felony counts he was facing, including embezzling and obtaining money by false pretenses. It took jurors most of Thursday afternoon and almost all of Friday morning to reach the verdict on Dr. Seawood.

He was charged after it was determined he stole over $45,000 from the district by claiming vacation days, but not actually taking the vacations. It was a scheme so he wouldn’t lose the vacation time he was given at the end of the year, so he filed for the vacation days under false pretenses.

Dr. Seawood will be sentenced on Jan. 29.
