Citizens in LaPorte step up to stop a pair of suspected drunk drivers

Police received a little help from citizens in their efforts to arrest a pair of suspected drunk drivers.

Two men helped catch the two drivers during the New Year’s weekend, with one of the men actually chasing a driver on foot and holding him for the police.

26 year-old Buddy Garwick of LaPorte were arrested on Saturday. Around 1:45 that morning a resident of Jackson Street in LaPorte confronted Garwick, who appeared to be attempting to steal his truck, and chased him down.

Saturday night around 7:45, a citizen followed 22 year-old Xaun Logan after seeing him drive into several mailboxes on McClung Road.

Police remind people to limit their involvement in the apprehension of suspects, for the sake of their own safety, and leave it to the professionals.
