An Elkhart man is accused of strangling a woman and saying he wanted to kill her in the process.

30-year-old Jacob Rushford is charged with strangulation, domestic battery, and resisting law enforcement.

Court documents say the victim’s husband called officers after hearing the altercation between Rushford and his wife over the phone. The woman reportedly told police that he had been drinking all day before he started strangling her, saying “I hate you and I want to kill you.”

Police say Rushford tried to break away from officers, but was unsuccessful. His latee breath test came back at .462, over five times the legal limit.

He has since bonded out of Elkhart County jail.
