Man killed, 2 others injured in crash on Indiana Toll Road

A man from China was killed in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road.

The collision, between the passenger car he was riding in and a semi happened near the 50 mile marker around 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12.

The passenger vehicle was driven by a 36-year-old South Bend man who lost control of the vehicle and struck a semi, according to Indiana State Police.

The semi hit the sedan in the right side, sending it into the ditch.

The driver received serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. A front seat passenger received life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Chicago.

Jucai Li, 63, of Shanghai, China, was sitting in the right rear side of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaPorte County Coroner.

A two-year old riding in the left rear was securely fastened in a child seat and was uninjured.

This crash remains under investigation and alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in this crash.
