In an offseason noted more for who’s leaving than who’s staying, Notre Dame’s offensive guru isn’t going anywhere.
According to reports out of both South Bend and Alabama, Offensive Coordinator Chip Long was coveted by Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. Irish Illustrated reports that Saban made “multiple runs” at Long, who is from Alabama.
However, Long stated he wanted to stay at Notre Dame and continue to build up the program, also stating he loves the young talent already in or en route to South Bend.
Saban made multiple runs at Chip Long, but he was rebuffed each time. A source I spoke said the Alabama native really wanted to stay at Notre Dame and continue building up his current program. Loves the young talent in South Bend, including incoming class. https://t.co/rLNGjARgB4

Had Long gone to Alabama, it would have been the second time the SEC poached an Irish coordinator, with Texas A&M spending big bucks to lure defensive coordinator Mike Elko to the Aggies.
