Police in Elkhart found a man lying in the street with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm.

Officers arrived on to the area of S. 5th and Marion Streets around 8:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, after getting calls from people in the area who heard the sound of gunfire, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

The 38-year-old man told police he was walking in the area when a vehicle pulled up and an occupant shot him, Snyder stated.

He suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening gunshot injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment, Snyder stated.

Officers collected evidence from the scene and interviewed witnesses.
