Man shot, robbed on Madison Street in Elkhart

A man was shot as he was robbed of his wallet in Elkhart.

The crime took place around 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, in the 900 block of Madison Street.

Officers arrived at the scene on the report of gunfire and searched the area but didn’t find any victims or property damage, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

A few minutes later, officers were dispatched to Elkhart General Hospital in regard to a victim suffering from a gunshot, Snyder stated.

The victim reported he was on  Madison Street meeting with an acquaintance. During that time, the acquaintance robbed him of his wallet and shot him. The suspect took off and area and the 45-year-old victim went to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot injury to the abdomen, Snyder stated.
