Death investigation at South Bend apartment complex for formerly homeless people

An investigation into a death authorities say is potentially suspicious is underway in South Bend.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, South Bend Police were sent to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Indiana Avenue after receiving a 911 call regarding an unresponsive adult female.

The apartment complex is home to formerly homeless individuals suffering from addiction or mental health disorders, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators interviewed several witnesses at the scene.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is handling the investigation with assistance from the St. Joseph County Drug Investigation Unit.

An autopsy on the woman’s body is scheduled for Sunday.
