Inmate dies at the Elkhart County Jail

A death investigation is underway at the Elkhart County Jail.

Medics were called to the facility just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, regarding a medical emergency involving an inmate, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

While providing help to the inmate, the inmate became unresponsive and died, the sheriff’s department reported.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was asked to investigate, as per protocol.
