Eddy Street Commons (Spencer Marsh/95.3 MNC)

A section of Eddy Street in South Bend will close starting Thursday, March 1, due to Phase II construction of Eddy Street Commons at Notre Dame.

Eddy Street from Napoleon Boulevard to Howard Street will be closed for 20 months.

St. Vincent Street between Frances Street and Georgiana Avenue will also close at the same time. Eddy Street between Napoleon and Angela Boulevards will remain open throughout the entire construction period.

Detour routes will be in place until the work is complete.

Southbound traffic on Eddy Street will be detoured west on Napoleon Street to Notre Dame Avenue, south on Notre Dame Avenue to Howard, and east on Howard to rejoin Eddy Street. Northbound traffic on Eddy Street will reverse the flow: Eddy Street to Howard Street to Notre Dame Avenue to Napoleon, before rejoining Eddy.

In Summer 2019, St. Vincent Street will reopen between Eddy Street and Georgiana Avenue to serve the apartments east of Eddy Street. In June 2019, Eddy Street will reopen to pedestrians but will not reopen to vehicular traffic until November 2019.

Phase II of Eddy Street Commons is a $90 million mixed-use project that will include 8,500 square feet of restaurant space, 17 “flex” units, 433 apartment units, 22 single-family homes, a new Robinson Community Learning Center and a stand-alone grocery store. The completion date for Phase II is Summer 2020.

A web page has been created to provide construction updates and road closure information.
