A search is underway for a kayaker who went missing on the Paw Paw River.

Police in Berrien County received a 911 call at around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and were directed to the Paw Paw River in Watervliet Township.

Three individuals were kayaking on the Paw Paw River near 4265 R. Smith Street in Watervliet when two of the kayaks struck a log in the river, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

One individual swam to shore and the second individual, Cory Wright, 35, of Niles, is currently missing.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was  on scene, Wednesday morning, conducting a search.

The search comes as area waterways have been running high due to heavy rain and melting snow that’s been blamed for recent flooding in the Midwest.
