Two Elkhart Police officers will not be charged following an officer-involved shooting on Christmas week.

Officers Daniel Mayer and Jared Davies responded to a report of a local bank robbery on December 28, 2017.

The two officers pursued one of the suspects, 30-year-old Corey Bailey, as he fled on foot. A taser reportedly didn’t work on Bailey.

Documents say Bailey then tried to carjack an Elkhart man’s vehicle at gunpoint, but was shot by the two officers before he could. Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Elkhart man suffered minor injuries from glass being shattered.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker says the officers were justified in shooting Bailey, as he was allegedly threatening the use of deadly force on a victim.
