Middlebury man on bicycle dies after getting hit by a truck

An early morning bike ride proved fatal for a Middlebury man Friday morning.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s officials say the bicyclist, 57 year-old Freeman Miller, died was struck and killed by a pickup truck around 4 a.m. on State Road 13, just south of Middlebury and County Road 20.

Officers said Miller was wearing a reflective vest and the bicycle was equipped with lights.

The road was closed between County Roads 20 and 24 during the morning commute. The driver of the truck, a 28 year old Syracuse man, was uninjured and the investigation is ongoing.
